The year seems to have flown by but at least the good thing is that The Planets biggest, most awesome Jet Ski Fishing compo is just around the corner. Now in its fifth year The Annual Racetech Yamaha Jet Ski Fishing Classic in Ponta do Ouro in Southern Mozambique has grown to such an extent that the places are mostly filled by the New Year drawing to it all the countries top Jet Ski anglers as well as a host of new faces. All records were once again broken this year with just over 120 competitors on 120 Jet Skis taking part. Every year we cannot believe how the event grows and grows and this year we expect it to be no different. As always we have a limit on the number of Jet Skis we can launch so get your entries in early.
The beautiful Coco Rico resort in the heart of Ponta once again plays host to this prestigious event. Perfectly positioned for an event of this kind a few hundred metres from the Ponta do Ouro launch site with ample space for guests to park their Jet Skis. Air conditioned units mean your stay is in comfort and style. The units surround a central pool and dining area and mean that you have all the festivities on your doorstep all weekend with the luxury of being able to escape from it all if you feel like it by just walking a few metres to your cabin. Great food, welcoming bar and friendly staff mean that you aren’t going to want to leave this awesome venue.
Yamaha are once again the driving force of the event with Racetech’s continued support in the form of sponsorship and involvement always a pleasure. Their hands on approach at their work premises bubbles over to this event and it’s great to always have them so involved. Mascor Toyota and GM are also a major driving force behind this event as well as driving Go Fish daily and will be there in full force, along with many other sponsors who make this event possible.
The event itself is highly competitive with a fantastic atmosphere at the same time. The guys come to compete hard but have loads of fun as well. And that is the objective of this event - a fun filled, family oriented fishing competition in which you can walk away with awesome prizes. And that’s what we always aim to do, with competitors all the way to 20th place walking away with phenomenal prizes. Plus loads of lucky draws throughout the weekend mean that even if you aren’t fishing to win you are almost certain to get some sort of prize. And of course we make sure our goody bags are stocked full of awesome goodies too….
Rules of the comp are catch, photo and release meaning minimal impact on the marine environment. Competitors are encouraged to bring the families as there is so much to do at the Coco Rico and in Ponta itself.
The 2013 event saw a new winner emerge in Byron Kane who has been knocking on the door for a while. Followed closely by Heinrich Klein. Every year we have had a different winner and the great thing is every year all the previous winners are there to fight tooth and nail to regain their title. Clive Murphy, Neal Govender, Pieter Steenkamp and Byron Kane this year. We hope to see them all again at the 2014 event. Who knows maybe this year one of them will recapture that trophy.
Accommodation can be arranged directly with Coco Rico so book yourselves and your families in early. Last year the resort was full by Christmas so that’s an indication of how popular this venue and event is.
Entry fee includes a goody bag worth R2 000. The early bird entry is R920 paid and booked before Christmas, R995 before 28th January 2014 and for the really late entries R1 300 thereafter. So get your entries in early and book your accommodation early to avoid any disappointment.
Competition days are 13th, 14th and 15th February 2014. Only two days of fishing which will be used dependant on forecast weather therefore one of the days will be a stand by and fall away. On the off day we will be having land based fun activities and clinics. Registration is Wednesday 12th February at Coco Rico from 1:30pm. Briefing will take place at Coco Rico at 630pm
